Threads of my work

Women and Child Removal

For 6 months I worked weekly with women at Her Circle in Newcastle, an organisation that supports women who experience complex motherhood and child removal.

Through this project, the women created their own self-portraits to communicate their story of hope, joy and sisterhood. In response to my time with them, I created 5 mixed media textiles portraits and an embroidered poem, all of which were displayed together in Newcastle Cathedral for International Women's Day 2025.

A lasting bond has been formed between us and I still work closely with these women.

Circles of Making

Following my residency with Her Circle, I have been gathering threads of experiences and conversations with women and begun a research project into 'circles of making'.

This research spans the various forms that women's circles take through shared making, crafts and community. I am combining historical, anthropological and artistic research to inform my practice.

Poetry

Writing has somewhat crept up on me in my practice as an artist. I find myself more and more creating poetry that forms parallels to my visual work. As a calligrapher and painter alongside my textiles work, I love finding ways to present my poems and display them complimentary to my visual art.
